CapitalCare provides a broad array of programs and living options across the continuing care spectrum including long-term care and palliative care, as well as rehabilitative and restorative services, mental health programs and day programs that support healthy independent living.
All of our programs are guided by person-centred care, an approach that recognizes the dignity of our residents and clients and aims to empower people to live more independent lives.
Programming within our centres focuses on creating a home-like environment that supports the unique needs of each individual. Our day and CHOICE programs aim to engage clients as active participants in their care and to support their ability to live at home with the right supports.
Across 14 sites in the Edmonton Zone, CapitalCare operates continuing care beds for 1399 residents, provides 158 community members with day programs and serves 337 clients through our CHOICE programs.

Our centres provide long-term care options to people who are not able to live independently due to complex health and care needs. Long-term care provides round-the-clock nursing and personal care in a home-like setting.
Our goal is to provide residents with a high quality of life in an engaging environment created through our person-centred approach to care. An interdisciplinary team of health care professionals, including on-site registered nurses, provide high quality care focused on the unique needs of our residents.

Specialized long-term care is also provided at several of our centres. We operate an Acquired Brain Injury Unit which creates a unique supportive and secure environment for adults with spontaneous behaviours due to an acquired brain injury.
A Chronic Respiratory Program provides support for residents who require specialized respiratory support in addition to the full-time support of a continuing care centre.
We also provide an Enhanced Support Program for people with medical and complex psychiatric needs that cannot be managed in a general long-term care setting.
The Hemodialysis Program provides centralized access to regular hemodialysis for residents.
A Bariatric Program provides accessible spaces with enhanced services to meet the needs of residents who require complex bariatric care.
This assisted living option combines round the clock health and personal care with housing designed specifically for adults who meet eligibility criteria. It’s available to individuals or couples who are capable of living independently and can make decisions but are no longer able to meet all of their own care needs.
Round-the-clock support provided at the CapitalCare Adult Duplexes empowers disabled adults to live independently in a group setting.
Couples and family members can find support through our Laurier Houses. This life lease option provides the comfort and privacy of a personal residence together with the peace of mind that comes with knowing professional assistance is available on site when it’s needed.
CapitalCare provides specialized Alzheimer care in centres designed to be dementia-friendly. The unique small home-like setting reduces risk while supporting residents to participate in familiar activities such as gardening and baking.
CapitalCare provides compassionate end-of-life care for people with life-limiting illnesses and those who no longer wish to pursue active treatment. Our goal is to provide people living with a terminal diagnosis to live with the highest quality of care in comfort and dignity. Find more information on palliative care, supports and resources here.
For individuals with significant but stable medical conditions who require an extended period of recovery following the acute phase of surgery, illness or accident. This program provides continued rehabilitation, clinical care and discharge planning with a goal to successfully returning home.
CapitalCare’s day programs empower individuals with physical challenges or who live with a chronic illness in the community. These programs allow people to remain living in their communities as long as possible by promoting independence and optimizing physical, spiritual and social function.
CapitalCare also provides dementia day programs that specialize in supporting clients with dementia, and their families. Social programs, physical activities and cognitive activities focus on the unique skills and needs of people with dementia.
Day programs are a great option for families and caregivers who want to empower their family member to socialize and engage in activities while also gaining some respite for themselves.

CHOICE (Comprehensive Home Option of Integrated Care for the Elderly) rehabilitation programs engage clients as active participants to improve or maintain their health and independence. Rehabilitation and day programs provide people the ability to maintain independence and stay in their own home while accessing care, support and respite programs.
CHOICE Clients attend programs two or more times a week based on their needs and can receive a full range of medical, psychological, rehabilitative or restorative therapy, therapeutic recreation, social, and cognitive and personal programs from an interdisciplinary care team.
